Who is running this survey project?
This survey project is run by long-time game researchers Nick Yee and Nic Ducheneaut as part of our consulting practice around game analytics. You can get a sense of our past work on gaming at The Daedalus Project, our academic papers, and Nick’s book on the psychology of online games.

What are these profile tools?
These profile tools were developed using statistical analysis of how game preferences and personality traits cluster together. Your responses to the survey are compared with the responses of many other people, and your profile report is based on your percentile ranks on the preferences and traits measured.

How are you using the data I provide?
In addition to using your data to generate your customized report, we are constantly testing new items for the assessment tool and refining the algorithm that generates the scores. We may also report aggregate-level findings from the data collected (e.g., gender, age, or regional differences) in blog posts, journal papers, conference talks, and other public venues. Some of the findings may be used to create commercial reports for game companies.

What about data privacy?
Your individual data will never be shared in any of our public reports; only aggregate-level findings will be shared. However, the profile tool allows you to share your own report with a web link if you so choose.
